This summer I’m on an internship in the beautiful north of Michigan in Petoskey. There are amazing views, fresh air, gorgeous waters, and abundant fruit. This is my article about traveling to Petoskey that you can find on Wardrobe Wire’s website. There you can find things to do, places to eat, and what to pack when heading North.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. Hope you come visit.

Continuing on with my week of diy beauty treatments. Today is mani/pedi day. After all it is summer and you want your hands and feet to look gorgeous in those sandals.
1. EXFOLIATE. Wash your feet and hands with an antibacterial soap. Rub heels and balls of feet with a microdermabrasion pad to remove dead skin.
2. SOAK. Fill a large bowl with warm water. Add a generous scoop of mineral salts and soak for 5 minutes.
3. TREAT. Slather on foot cream and hand cream that contains lactic acid which simultaneously exfoliates and hydrates. Also using vitamin E oil around the cuticles and nails helps keep them healthy. (via InStyle)

To continue my diy posts today is about taming the unruliness of hair frizz.
1. CLEANSE. Saturate hair with a mixture of equal parts witch hazel and mouthwash, massaging it onto the scalp with your fingertips. “This works as a natural astringent and antiseptic to get rid of flakes and promote healthier hair growth.”
2. CONDITION. Combine one avocado with 2 tablespoons olive oil, water, and whipped heavy cream. Comb from roots to ends and cover with a shower cap.
3. RINSE. After 20 minutes rinse using tepid water and wash with a gentle sulfate free shampoo. (via InStyle)

I’m on a DIY kick right now so I’m going with it. Today I’m focusing on facials. I’ve done some all-natural, at-home treatments before that smell horrible, but do the trick. I did find one the uses great smelling ingredients.
1. PREP. Mist skin with a solution of 1 tablespoon lemon juice diluted with a cup of water.
2. EXFOLIATE. Slather on a mask of 1/2 cup mashed papaya, 1 teaspoon yogurt, and 1 teaspoon honey. “The papaya and yogurt remove dead skin cells, while the honey helps draw in water and plump up skin.”
3. TREAT. Target dark areas with a spot fader made of equal parts strawberries and baking soda blended into a paste.

pop-up bars, restos and shops have become de rigueur of the culturally adventurous, so it’s no surprise that the world’s first ever pop-up golf course, golf mountain, is now a possibility.
located in adelboden, switzerland, this course will be open for one month only starting in september. the golf course, sitting 1,964 metres up, offers breathtaking views of the village of adelboden, making it one of the highest in europe. and just like any regular green, golf mountain has a full 18 holes ranging from par 3 to par 5, but is said to provide even the best golfers some serious challenges. make like mickelson and endure obstacles like streams and rocky outcrops as well as swirling mountain winds and other extreme weather conditions. but it also has some necessary luxuries as well—check out the driving range or head to the cozy clubhouse that boasts a bar, resto and pro shop. and since you’re there, why not make a trip out of it and stay at the nearby cambrian hotel that has been recently renovated to offer top-of-the line amenities (an outdoor heated pool with water jets, an indoor lap pool, and a sauna). an added bonus? the cambrian offers a sweet package deal that allows you to enjoy golf mountain in style including B&B accommodations, two green fees, transfers to the course, and so much more.
sounds better than a hole in one. golf mountain. the cambrian. dorfstrasse 7. CH-3715 adelboden, switzerland. 33.673.8383. open from 10 september until 10 october. (via julib.com)

With the green movement happening in the 70′s onto the present and in recent light of the BP oil spill one’s to wonder, are we completely dependent on automobiles and oil? Cramped parking spaces and rush hour traffic can leave you feeling like an uneasy rider. Try b-cycle for a new way to get around in Chicago.
Set to debut next week, b-cycle offers bike rentals for super cheap. Just sign up online and choose your membership level. Opps span everything from a 24-hour rental to 30 days (pricing varies). Annual membership is also available (although we’re not sure how working a two wheeler through seven feet of snow would play out, regardless, it’s pretty darn cheap). Rental stations will be placed at popular spots like McCormick Place, Buckingham Fountain and the Chicago Park District HQ. Once finished, you can return your wheels to any one of the kiosk stations. It’s that easy. Can’t you just see it: you rolling through the city, wind in face, sun on back (and traffic woes to the wayside)? Yeah, we thought so.
Take a spin with b-cycle. Various locations throughout the city now open. (via julib.com)

Throwing a cocktail party requires excellent organizational skills, but making people enjoy themselves requires knowing how to be a good host, which not everyone knows how to do. Here are some tips to improve your skills as a host and make a cocktail party memorable.
1) Set the mood. Be prepared with a diversity of drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and hors d’oeuvres or appetizers. Re-arrange furniture so that your guests will not feel cramped, but everyone has a place they can sit down without being isolated. Dim lighting, candles and fresh flowers can create a warm atmosphere.
2) Dress appropriately. You are the first person your guests will see, so it’s important to make a good first impression. It doesn’t matter how nicely the party is decorated if you look disheveled or drab. If you indicated on the invitations that it would be a formal event, you should dress up; in fact, you’re better off being overdressed than underdressed.
3) Welcome your guests. Greet your guests at the door as they arrive and welcome them in. Offer to take their coats and be prepared with a room set aside to store coats during the party. Tell them where you are putting their coats (and any other accessories, like purses or umbrellas) so if they need something, they know where to look. Send them through to the party room while you put their coats away.
4) Serve the drinks. As the host, you should always make sure everyone has a drink in their hand. Keep an eye on what everyone is drinking, and walk around with a bottle or a jug of water to replenish their drinks. It’s best to fill the glasses up to two thirds. As you’re doing this, make sure that no one drinks too much. If you spot someone drinking too quickly, fill their glass half way or less. Likewise, if you see someone is obviously sipping their drink very slowly, perhaps because they don’t prefer drinking too much, don’t be overly eager to give them more.
5) Introduce people. Ideally, your guests will mingle freely without prompting, but more often than not, cliques can form over the course of the evening, with people who already know each other well sticking close together and not engaging others at the party. This can dampen the party spirit, so as the host, look for ways to mix things up a bit. Find two people who you would like to meet each other, and introduce them. Bring up a topic that you know they are both interested in (“Chris, isn’t your son applying to colleges? Marly here has a sister who’s an admissions officer at Yale. Maybe she can give you some tips!”), or relate one person’s experience to the other (“Joan, did you know that Harold climbed Mount Everest last year?). Get the conversation rolling and then move on to mind your other guests.
6) Enjoy the party!. Your appearance and your demeanor will set the tone of the party, so you must be presentable and sociable from beginning to end. If they see you look tired and stressed, they might feel as if they are burdens. But if you’re lighthearted, relaxed, and talkative, it’ll help them loosen up and feel at ease. With good planning and preparation, you should have plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy the party. (via wiki)

All spring and summer I have been talking about how important prints are to incorporate into your wardrobe. Yesterday at work someone brought in a magazine with decorating themes for a baby’s room for one of our pregnant employees. They were commenting on how there were too many patterns for their taste in each picture. That made me realize that while it’s hard for us to incorporate prints into our wardrobe it’s also true for our homes. While most stay away and some go overboard, as everything in life, prints are good in moderation. For example you could use print in small amounts like this clutch.

To incorporate some fun in the sun try this sexy, one-pience swimsuit. It’s sure you get you noticed and not blend in.

If you’re looking to punch up a room and give it excitement and flair try this chair. You can base the color scheme of the rest of the room by using elements of the chair.

Summer is famous for the hit list of songs, books, movies, vacations, etc. For the summer blockbusters unfortunately there is not much creativity any more. Most movies are re-makes or based off of books. Which you would think would be good for the literary world, but people would rather spend their time watching the movie than reading the book. But I’ll let you all in on a secret. THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE. Sometime the movie can be as good as the book, but never better. Here are some of my summer recommendations.
Book List:
Eat, Pray, Love; Eclipse; The Happiness Project; Naturally Thin; To Kill a Mockingbird (It’s the 50th Anniversary)
Movie List:
Eclipse; Despicable Me; Eat, Pray, Love; Toy Story 3; Sex and the City 2; Grown Ups; Inception

Tommy Ton is again in haute pursuit as he heads off to the Paris Couture shows. You can consistently find his work at Style.com. I love his work because one they are amazing photos and two while everyone else is taking photos of the runway he takes photographs of the people attending the shows, which to me is usually more fun. We get to see real style and how people translated the trends they saw at previous shows into their daily life. This particular picture has been my laptop’s background for the last six months and I have still not gotten tired of it. It amuses and delights me every day.
Look out for more of is work for every fashion collection.
